Arnold Betoney, Go2’s American Indian Church Planting Director, is also the pastor of the Native New Life Church, itself a church plant with eight core families in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He shares his unique perspective on church planting among the Native American community:
“The conversion rate among Native Americans is slow. This is due to the past relationship with the Europeans, which has caused many of our people to view the gospel of Jesus Christ as a ‘white man’s gospel’.
Still, I continue to present the gospel and at the same time preach reconciliation with forgiveness. The trust of my people is slowly developing as they begin to trust me and the gospel I preach at Native New Life Church. It is a blessing to see one conversion in a year. And, often due to work and family obligations, some of the converted leave the church and move on. Yet I know the gospel continues on even as he or she moves on.
The most valuable tool of our witnessing is our lives. Our people look at our lives and they respond to the change that they see in us. Native New Life Church is now six years old and our Native people are beginning to see the church as a true Native community church. In the past year I have seen many rededications and we continue to see an increase in visitors who are curious about what is happening here.
The WORD still goes out. I know God is faithful and His Word will not return void. Thank you for your prayers and support of Native ministries and Go2.”
